How can reflexology help me?

Reflexology can be used to help restore and maintain the body’s natural equilibrium. This gentle therapy encourages the body to restore its own healthy balance.

Reflexology has been shown to be effective for:

Back Pain
Migraine
Fertility
Arthritis
Sleep Disorders
Sports Injuries
Hormonal Imbalance
Digestive Disorders
Stress-related Conditions

Reflexology can also help as a preventative measure.
By having regular treatments reflexology can keep the body in balance, and help combat minor illnesses.

e

Who can benefit from reflexology?

Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.  After having completed a course of reflexology treatments for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue with regular treatments in order to maintain health and well being.

While people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress. With ever increasing levels of stress, it is more important that people take more responsibility for their own health care needs.

Reflexology can help us cope on a physical, mental and emotional level thereby encouraging us to heal and maintain health in all areas of our lives.

e

When should I visit a Reflexologist?

You do not have to have a problem to benefit from a treatment, you can visit a reflexologist for  the pleasure of having a relaxing treatment or just time to yourself.  However, you can also benefit from a treatment when you are ill, stressed or just feeling ‘under the weather’ and run down.

e

What happens when I go for a treatment?

On the first visit the reflexologist will have a preliminary talk with you to determine your present and past health and lifestyle.

The reflexologist will then use their hands to apply light pressure to the feet as well as holding certain points on the foot known as ‘linking’.

A professionally trained reflexologist can detect subtle changes in specific points of the feet, and by working on these points may affect the corresponding organ or system of the body.

A treatment session usually lasts for about one hour. Extra time will be needed for the inital session to take account of the preliminary talk.  A course of treatments may be recommended depending on your body’s needs.

e

What can I expect after a treatment?

After a Reflexology treatment, it is common for your feet to feel warm and relaxed. You may feel sleepy or energised. Your body may feel hot or even shivery as your blood pressure changes when you are relaxed or revitalised.

Occasionally, you may experience reactions when the body begins its self-healing process and elimination of toxins. These reactions may include:

Frequent visits to the toilet to enable the body to get rid of waste
Runny nose and/or cough as the body rids itself of toxins
Slight rash as the skin rebalances and rids itself of toxins
Perspiration - another way that the body can excrete waste
Conditions which have been suppressed may flare up temporarily before they heal
Deep sleep or difficulty sleeping and vivid dreams

These reactions are only temporary and should clear within 24 hours. They are positive signals that your body has responded to Reflexology and is balancing itself. If reactions do not subside after 24 hours please contact me and we may be able to organise a short treatment to help relieve the reactions.

After a treatment do take time to relax and benefit from the session, do try to avoid alcohol for 24 hours as the Reflexology can speed up the effect that this stimulant has on the body.

It is also recommended that you try to reduce your caffeine intake (including colas) and eat light, healthy meals.

e

How often should I visit a Reflexologist?

This will depend on your reasons for wanting a reflexology treatment. If you are in good health, and are looking to maintain this, the reflexologist will recommend a monthly treatment to keep your body in balance. However, if you are seeking treatment for chronic or acute conditions, then frequency and quantity of treatments will vary. Every person is an individual, and reactions and outcomes will vary.

e

Are there any age restrictions on who can have a treatment?

Reflexology is a safe treatment for people of all ages - there are no upper or lower age limits! Children under the age of 16 will require parental consent before a treatment can be given. The reflexologist will adjust the pressure which is applied according to the age of the client.

e

How can a reflexology treatment balance and revitalise me?

We live in a very busy and stressful world, and constantly ignore our body’s calls to slow down and relax. Reflexology is an extremely relaxing therapy, and many clients drift into a very deep state of relaxation, or fall asleep during their treatment. This enables the body’s own healing mechanisms to work and encourages the body’s own energy flow, which enables the body and mind to rediscover their own state of balance.

e

I have ticklish feet - does Reflexology tickle?

Reflexology should not tickle! The pressure is very gentle and is applied with the thumbs and middle fingers. Clients with very ticklish feet are surprised at how they are able to tolerate a treatment, and usually comment that it is not what they expected!

e

Will Reflexology hurt me?

Precicion reflexology should not be a painful, as it is a very gentle treatment, but there may be areas on your feet which may be tender or sore during the treatment. This would indicate to the reflexologist that these reflexes are out of balance, so she will work gently to rebalance these reflexes, sometimes using the 'linking' procedure and they will discuss their findings with you at the end of the treatment.

e

Can I have a reflexology treatment if I have a verruca or athlete’s foot?

Yes. The reflexologist will either cover the infected area with a plaster or some micropore tape, or she will wear gloves. This is to prevent cross infection.  If you do have either   of these conditions please inform the reflexologist prior to the treatment.
