Reflexology in Puerperium
(The Post Natal Period)

Once baby arrives, they still seem to be the center of attention, however it is important to remember to take time for yourself. Continuing your Reflexology treatments once your baby has arrived can help in the following ways:

- Balancing, harmonising and restorative at this demanding time
- Reduces anxiety and helps you establish a "calm inner centre"
- Reduces tension, aches and stiffnesses
- It helps restore the body to a non pregnant state
- Increases vitality and aids restful sleep

Postnatal Reflexology treatments are also a wonderful time to recuperate from birthing. They are also a great time to relax with your baby (who of course continues to be welcome in my treatment room) and understand some simple reflexology techniques which will benefit their health, whilst giving you a wonderful opportunity to continue to bond with him or her.

Nature also helps, and your body is now recovering its own shape and physiology, without any advice.

How can Reflexology help after labour

From the very moment your child is born, the uterus starts to shrink rapidly, giving birth to the placenta and right after, the body starts a very dramatic and quick process of recovery.

This state of things is sometimes are very difficult to be handled by new mothers and by her environment:  sometimes they cry without any apparent reason, feel lonely, melancholic and in some cases, even depressed.

Every mother deserves attention and love!

In order to better attend the needs of your baby, it would be better for you to be relaxed and restore the natural balance you enjoyed before the Pregnancy.

This is the time when Reflexology becomes not only necessary, but powerfully enhancing.

Reflexology is an enhancing, restoring and balancing treatment. Now somebody else is taking care of and pampering you. In addition, if you have had a hard labour or traumatic experience, the qualities of reflexology as a therapy would help enormously. A reflexology session is an excellent reason and an excuse to…. relax.

The following is a short list of the reasons for which is Reflexology is highly recommended to the recent mother:

·         Deep relaxation
·         Lymphatic drainage
·         Endocrine balance
·         Enhancing the Solar Plexus reflex
(aims to ease the tensions, release anxiety and let her feel better with herself)
·         Postnatal care
·         Aching joints
·         After caesarean section
·         After epidural anesthesia
·         After forceps delivery
·         Backache
·         Breasts engorgement and breasts mastitis
·         Constipation
·         Fatigue
·         Lactation
·         Perineal pain (due to painful episiotomy)
·         Post Natal Depression
·         Urination difficulties and pain
·         Painful joints

And as a touch therapy, giving support and warmth to somebody that really deserves it.
